Hi Gang!
Love all the photos and diary of your pumpkin growing season! Also congratulations on a job "well done" at the Durham Fair. Believe it or not, some of us growers have learned a lot from the trials and tribulations of you students during the past season. A pumpkin cutting "celebration" complete with colored ribbons and awards, brought a tear to my eyes, maybe we should all slow down from the busy pace of life, and celebrate together Life, Pumpkins, and Friends! (It may also make it easier to "enlist" lifters for the future!) I definately recommend a soil test for next year, (to see what you got), and it would also help to plant a cover crop this fall of winter rye, (a green fertilizer). Till it into the soil in the Spring, several weeks before planting. In the words of my children I think you all did "cool" and "sweet"!You are growing a lot more here than giant pumpkins teach, and we all appreciate that! It's onward and upward from here on in!
