I'm hoping to take my biggest survivor to a weighoff and I was wondering about a few things. The pumpkin rules say something like" Healthy undamaged, with no holes penatrating to the interior." My question is how about all the smaller cracks and splits I've been putting captan on? I know you have to wash the captan off but is this still ok to have these splits and stuff on the stem and pumpkin itself. None of these seem to be oozing alot or anything but I can't say I'd call it "undamaged" what do they mean by this? Any help owuld be appreciated Amy

Don't worry about those small holes and cracks, keep up with your Captan. As long as the hole doesn't penetrate into the pumpkin cavity, you should be O.K.! They basically don't want any holes where water "could" have been added,or rotten pumpkins! You'll see some pretty ugly holes and split stems at the weigh-off! Hang in there,Amy! kilr

Amy....i guess i will see you their...i am a member of the pgpga and keep your pumpkin dry...i have the same proublem on my biggest one...i have 8 other one and i may choose a back-up pumpkin to bring along...if you have alittle fan after you put the captan on set the fan infront of the spot about 12-18 inches and cover you pumpkin ...this will dry it out and help stop the rot or split...see ya i about a month....papagreg

Great hope I see you there! My pumpkin Al seems to be doing well, no major problems yet. I had an inch of rain in about a half an hour last night so we'll see how he handles it.
