I'm a beginner and for a number of reasons i didn't plant untill around June 1st. I have 2 growing - I planted Connecticut Field - they are med. size and green . Will they ripen by Halloween ? And, I have 3 kids, so on to the big issue -- I have several female flowers developing. Two will be ready for fertilizing tomorrow AM. Am I wasting my time trying for a 3rd at this late date ? Is there a chance that a pumpkin fertilized on 9/10 will ripen by Halloween ? Our weather here in South Jersey has turned quite warm -- in the 80s this weekend. So, if I'm really lucky and we have a nice Indian Summer -- is there any chance they'll ripen in 50 days ???

Well I am a first year grower too, but on this web-site I read something earlier on that I thought was good advice for a first timer...and that is....just keep pollinating, you can always cull later.
