Being a novice to G.P. growing I would like to know what date New England growers suggest starting the germination process indoors? What date should I then aim for in transplanting outdoors? I do have cold frame type protection for transplanting. Thank you all for your advice!

Yes, start late May or June for New Enland! If you need seeds I got some! Just e-mail me!

Steve, Last year I started my seeds on 4/18. They were transplanted outside on 5/6 in a mini-greenhouse. Check my Grower Diary and notice the entry dates. There were several nights of frost in the first couple of weeks outside. I used 4 one gallon jugs of hot water in the greenhouse to keep the seedlings warm. I also covered the greenhouse with blankets at night. Just be sure and remove the blankets in the morning.
