on the survivor I have two rotten spots .5 by 1 inch I put captan on them they are still soft should I cut the soft parts out? what should I dew?

I have heard of other growers removing the soft rotting portion of a stem and still holding on to the pumpkin. Last year Alan R. had one where you could see right through a hole in the stem. He kept it dry with a fan and then beat me with it at a local fair! 518 pounds.
