Unfortunetly my biggest has a nice split in it. The split runs across the width and is about 2 inches wide by 1/2 inch long and I think it goes to the cavity. The pumpkin is around 400 lbs OTT. The split happened on one of the three dill rings this pumpkin or squash had. I don't know what I should do, leave it and fill it up with silicon or whatever and see what happens, or cut it,weigh it and harvest the seeds. Thanks for the help. If there's a split club here then sign me up.

Well...they will still grow for a while even with the split into the cavity. You can plug it with Captan paste (or saturate a piece of sponge with Captan, then compress the sponge into the hole, letting it expand to fill the hole). Then watch it close and see how much/long it grows. Some people might say you might have three weeks max before it goes south on you. But if you really want the seeds from your cross, then I'd give it less than that. You don't want your seeds sitting in rotten stew in the cavity too long... Frank

Kyle Sorry to hear your big one split. Mine split 10 days ago at about 630#. I measured it last night and it was in the 800# range. I'll keep it going until the first of next week before I chop it up and take the seeds out. This pumpkin had the stuff to easily make it to 1000#. Oh-well, better luck next year.
