I know this topic has been posted many times, but I had to post a question I was asked last night. I was unloading our fair pumpkin (ended up 593), and was asked the usual questions: Did you grow it in the truck, did you give it milk, how many years did you grow it, daily doses of highly concentrated Miracle grow, etc... Two new ones for me: First, this nice lady noticed that the vines were in water bottles and asked me if I grew the pumpkin like that...lol. Then, after I had cut the vine to within 1 inch, I laid the vines still in the water bottles in the back of the truck. A little while later when heading to the truck, I see some guy leaning over the bed with one of the vines in his hand and he asks "what kind of cuttings are these?" Always fun!

Here's a good one. A grown man came up to my pumpkin at the contest and said: "Is it real?" and then procedded to jam his thumb nail into the flesh. Anyways, congrats on 593!

"So you grow them on top, I always thought the fruit is down in the soil till you dig them out at harvest time".
