Well another disappointment. My pumpkin off the 842 eaton split on Saturday due to a dill ring and were a rib intersected. It was overwatered when I was on vacation for 12 days and the ring developed when I cam back. Weigh her today on certified scales. 992 POUNDS 46 days old with a circ of 162 side to side 93 inches end to end 97 inches for a total of 352 inches ott. She had to many 40 pound days.Cross is 842 eaton x 1260 weir. Very generous seed count.

Sorry to hear that Drew. That pumpkin was on an awesome pace. I hope your 1260 is doing well, and makes it through to the end.

Sorry to hear you lost your big one Drew. I'm down to two myself. Lost one over 500# on Sunday and the one that split last week is about 750# now. It was about 630# when it split.

What coulda, shoulda, woulda...It still hurts just the same Wayne. I have back-ups but they are much younger fruit due late season sets caused by the July heat wave. Having a strong finish in September and I could still have a respectable showing.

While it is great to see 35-40# gains, I have yet to keep them together. Only the "slow and steady" ever make it to the weigh-offs.....as least in my patch. My two big ones (1109 & 1068)are already in the compost pile!

I think your right Stan, my 1260 has been steady for 2 weeks now at roughly 14 a day, seems like it doesnt put such a strain on the pumpkin, but yet I dont think it will break 900lbs ether if it stays on this pace. Pumpkin is alot more solid and thick compared to my other pumpkins,Im sure genetics has alot to do with it also, but growing steady at a lower number gotta help too.
Drew, im growing the 842 Eaton also that I crossed with the 1260 at day 43,This pumpkin is still pale color and gains at 25 to 30 a day the skin is as smooth as my wifes legs,,,Ok I wouldnt go as far as her legs but lets say smooth as glass.Anyway, this worries me with this kind of gain for the past week that it could easly split like yours did,Id like to see the skin start to mature a little.
Sorry to hear yours split,it would have ened up being a monster Im sure.

Drew don't worry............I just pulled off the Bone-head play of the year........I was checking my 842 Eaton tonight and noticed alot of mushy stuff all around the bottom............sort of looked like graded cheese.............so smart me lifted the pumpkin up and placed a piece of styrofoam under it................now I placed my hand under it and it was very wet and mushy........so smart me figured it had split on the bottom.....out comes the knife and I turned it over and guess what.......it was fine.......I had it on fabric( belting and sand had been washed down after last weeks rain storm)..........pumpkin was growing so fast it was scraping its bottom on the sand and the fabric made it like sand-paper........well I lost a 120" 30 day old fruit because of stupidity.....good thing I have a 1005 Mombert the same size......I would have rather have had it split LOL........LOL........LOL.......all one can do is roll with the punches........

Now, Wayne, this is the worst thing I have heard for quite a while! A split isn't too nice but this just sucks!!! Cutting off a perfectly healthy 30 day old fruit with a circ. of 120" by mistake - ouch!!!!!! If that was me and with the luck I usually have then the 1005 would split a few days later! Hope it holds together for YOU!
