True, my growing season is FAR from over! But as I look out over the garden, seeing many GPs taking up well OVER 300', GP vines flowing through the fences and into the rock hard pastures (almost a foot deficit in summer rain - call it an unusually hot drought...)... Noticing that the horses/goats/cows don't seem to bother the GPs - other than the youngsters rolling the large culls (I throw 'em over the fence..) with their hooves in play.. And on the other side of the GP beds - I'm having to 'fight' the GP vines that seek to take over the rest of the garden.....Although I've had quite a bit of 'wasted space' in my garden from crops that the family wouldn't eat and that couldn't handle drought...

I'm planning next year's garden... More GPs (I've REALLY enjoyed them!!)...All Raised beds... More melons and squash as well!

I figure with yet one more winter of dumping copious amounts of barn waste into the beds - there will be about 2-3' depth of solid, composted manure (plus hay & shavings..) for the GPs & melons to enjoy... This year there was only about 6-11" of the compost - and they've done remarkably well in the face of severe drought and heat!..

I'm looking for anyone in the deep south, TN, KY and maybe drought/heat stricken areas of the west - that have managed to grow some big ones this year.. I'm going to be planting only about 4 varieties from this year's garden into next years - so I want some other 'proven drought/heat tolerant' varieties to add to that...

Please email me your address and I'll send a SASBE to you - if you want to trade - GREAT!! [email protected]

Look thru diaries and look for Kano...(hope this is not unethical BP talk)...he set new Arkansas record this year already...I would think this is an extremely heat resistant plant. From my emails from him it sounds like he has a couple of seeds. Maybe??? Will someone tell me if what I just did is not right!!! Go Kano Go!!! Peace Wayne 1200 from Ark. next year???
