I came home today and for the first time since it was pollinated, I couldn't see the 905 fruit. It was clearly visible from the road, and now there is just a big bare spot. I felt a pang in my heart, like I had lost a good friend. As I rounded into the driveway, I was comforted somewhat with the sight of the 1367.5, resting under it's sheet. It's funny, I never felt any grief when I saw the brocolli patch bare after the harvest, or the bare rows where the green beans used to frolick. Sheesh, I think I'm getting weepy...where's my black suit.

Very common symptoms of Post Pumpkin Depression. Seems the feelings are more severe when the pumpkin does not make it to the scale. Only known cure is to shovel manure in to a truck and built your soil back up. Alchohol is not an effect cure and only leads to more confusing feelings. I just can't beleive you chucked in the dump..Thats alot of nutrients.

HAHAHA! I can't get past step one Tom!
Shovel manure without a beer break? I think that's illegal in West Virginia. If it isn't it ought to be!

I feel for you dude. Thats got to suck when you have to cull one that big but hey at least you had fun watching it grow the last few months. Plus you have another biggy on so you have more energy to put towards that pumpkin. Either way you have had one hell of a season. Jeff

Lonely Monty's grower's support group. Wet elbows & all. LOL
Chin up Monty. Start working the patch soil. You have no excuses next year if you play your cards right now. You'll have all the oldest most rotten manures in WV if you start digging around now before everyone else gets thinking about it.
That or start another plant. Your first frost is a long way off.

Yeah Julia sure looks like a cutie on top of that pumpkin. Forget to tell you that last night. Fill the empty spot with manure or a cover crop to get ready for next year!

Just got done weeding this morning Pete. Gonna start pulling the 905 plant today, and get a jump on prep. Instead of three plants in that area, I'm only going to put in two next year. I am still going to do four plants, but the layout will be much different. I have learned a lot so far this year. Next year is gonna be better.
