I'd guess less than 1,000-2,000 in general...
less than that competitively ... maybe 400-500

there are approximately 2050 growers that have pumpkins listed on the AGGC.

This is a quote from How to Grow World Class Giant Pumpkins Book 2- written 1993" At last count there were about 2 million gardeners around the world growing the Atlantic Giant, and many thousands of them belong to grower organizations which hold annual festivals and weigh-offs."
If my math is right that means that in 1993 with a world population of 4 billion- 1 in 2000 people were growers. Doesn't that sound a little high? John

I believe there are well over 200 here in CT. Most are not terribly competitve but rather grow for fairs, fun & halloween.

I would guess most growers are using seed rack A.G. seeds, and getting pumpkins under 200 lbs. Nothing wrong with that. Just think how busy this site would be, if they all got the bug as bad as we have it.

In my home area which is not to large there are at least thirty or fourty growers only three or four of which I have mentioned in my diary. Those are the one's we know about. There are others. Many see the Dill adds in the seed catalogs and take the I'll try that route with little or no other contact or association with folks like us.
