The 872.5 from last yr was really moving fast i guess too fast, Last nite had the biggest gain iv ever had- but pumpkin couldnt stant it 41 lbs in less than 24 hrs , i liked the shape but i guess that shape could not stand that much growth !! blossem end has 2 splits that go threw ! only maybe 2 in but they will grow im sure !! but i dont have any experence of splits so im not sure ,, i herd it was bad to let the air inside so iv already caulked with painters caulking!!i guess ill gust see what happens!!I guess that was too much 478 lbs at day 33, ouch!! so now im down to only one this yr my 1104.5 hester is on same tract as last yrs 872 was except plants are in great shape & no mildew & other improvements !! OUCH again !!!

If it is through, to the cavity, there is likely nothing you could do, to save it. Only minor surface expansion cracks cure, in most cases.

Ill keep it caulked & see !!

No Place Special

the 1432 Carlson split at like 1000 lbs I think. They caulked the crack shut and watched the pumpkin grow to be a monster

If I may be frank, Fisssh! You got greedy! Very few pumpkins can withstand 40+ pounds a day....I found out last year. :>(

my theory is that if you roll the dice and keep one pumpkin per plant and that pumpkin turns out to be a real stud its 50-50 if it will blow or not, the blossom ends are just to thin on a one month or so old pumpkin

if you have a real stud id leave a pumpkin on a secondary vine until my main pumpkin got around 6 or 700 lbs, then cut away the secondary fruit

your early growth may be down a bit but the pumpkins servival rate is much better

Went out to check on 1075 Daletas fruit this a.m. and found blossom split wide open. Big enough to stick your arm into. Fruit was at day 23 and approx. 225#. That makes one stem and one blossom split for me so far. Peace Wayne

Stan, try not to blow any of your whoppers up this year.... We have been having a terrible season with the cold wet spring and frost May 26th, and now constant 90+ heat for the last 3+ weeks... Will be lucky to bust 500# this year...
