Well becuase of work and being bussy all the time, My 9 day old fruit is going to be around the 30 " C for day 10 tomouro, Problem is were the fruit is set at thats the same location were i have the vine turning and another 5" of growth the fruit will be touching the main vine ( in front of it) the reason the main is turned there is becuase it ran out of room and hit the fence, were the fruit is located I have about 4 ft distance from fence
and was thinking if i placed an 2x4 piece of wood along with a piece of styrofoam between the fruit and the fence it would cause thje fruit to move the other direction as it grows? or maybe not, its growing at such a fast rate now i gotta do something, problem is the stem on the fruit is the thickness of a beer bottle neck and is about 10" long and last thing i want to do is cause it to crack or split by forceing it to move the other direction

any suggestions ?

thanks
Dave

Dave,
I had this problem this year also. The main vine was going along the fence as is yours, and all the fruit aborted and I was left with the terrible positioned pumpkin. I cut the main vine at the pumpkin and hope that the pumpkin doesnt split. It solved my problem so far but it all depends on the distance from the stump and whether or not you are comfortable with cutting the main vine. Good Luck.

Dave, How much plant do you have behind the fruit. You can move the fruit, safely 1/4"/day and over the course of a few days you will gain space. Also sever the roots of the main and place it in a better position, trimming leaves and side vines to fit your requirement should be easily accomplished.

Ya id move the fence Too if my neighbour would allow me to do so but that doesnt seem to be an option LOL, ya i just arrived home this evening from holidays and my pumpking is HUDGE!!

Russ My fruit is set out a good 20 + feet and i have about 30 ft of Burried main vine past this fruit, I now see the fruit is about 4" over the main and everything seems well
at day 16 the fruit is around 65 " circums.
