Had a nice stem split develop in my 1260 last evening. Went right through the stem on both sides. It however did not go through into the cavity. How many people have had sucess packing these guys with sulphur and holding on to them till weigh off? Would be a shame to have this one go down. At day 17 it was sitting at 73 in circ. Fan is going all the time now and sulphur gets in there twice a day.

my 950 had a stem split like yours, opened on top, went all the way through the bottom of the stem. It happened at 470 lbs or so, and now I'm just under 800 and still going. I wouldn't over pack it with sulfer, just a lite dust or lite paste on the opening in the pumpkin. Most do ok, so you have a decent shot at it! Hope it holds for you. Jimmy

I guess the reason I packed it in was to keep the "meat" of the pumpkin fungus free. I'm worried that if I dont do this some nice little fungus spores will hit that nice moist meat and start to rot and just worsen the problem. Basically I filled in the crack like it was dry wall puddy. :)

We just spray a good fungicide and let it heal it self. It eventually forms a really nice scar over the area.

I personally have had very good luck with daconil and manzate on stems. Sulfur has not done the trick. Typically make a paste out of the Manzate, and take the daconil straight out of the bottle with a paint brush. Be careful of the skin, could burn it a little.

I put some Captan dust on a piece of paper and blow it in the openings once a week or so. The interior healed over. No expert here. Just has worked for me so far.

just use a dusting or a thin paste, don't cake it in there. it'll heal really ugly lookin. they'll probably poke around in there at the weighoff to make sure it doesn't split into the cavity.

dry good......wet bad.......dust it, and get a fan on it asap. to really get into the crack, you can get a straw and blow something like sulphur in .......although unorthodox, it is effective, just be careful, you dont want to inhale this, or get it in your eyes. A safer approach would probably be to get one of those nasal aspirator's that they make......looks like a bulb with a pointy tip...i bet that would work really well also. Just keep it dry.

Stem split sealed up nicely. I used (2 times a day) dry sulphur in the wound and a fan 24/7. Unfortunatley on Sunday the 8th, the blossom end blew out. :( crack was about 8 inches long and 1/2 inch wide. I did cut open the stem split and it had sealed up nicely. Had fresh meat back at least 8 inches. At day 24 it taped at 269 pounds. Oh well move on to the next one.
