Marty, I finally have some going. Two days in July were good for setting the rest of the days they aborted. Not sure why? I have 5 pumpkins growing at 25 inches. Over 30 aborted. What a nightmare. I am glad to see you have something going. Good luck to you. jeff

My larger pumpkin circ is 97" my smaller pumpkin which stared 14 days later has a 44" circ both appear to be growing less than 10 lbs/2kg per day. Don't ask me why, I do not know. We have a few ideas. It is just so frustrating.

I have one fruit at basketball size, many small sets on secondaries, but really nothing to report from this part of the Keystone state. I do however have a sunflower that is at the 14 ft mark and is still shooting skyward. 2 or three more in the 12 ft range. Kinda neat there. I am also goving giant tomatoes a shot and have some helacious plants, and even a few small tomato giants started. Any clues on how to get the tomatoes to get big? Cull back to one fruit like a pumpkin plant? Do I trim any of the plant off? My seed is from a 4.8 pound WIlson fruit.

Its been a crazy season here in the northeastern part of the state. May was horrible but June and July threw us record temperatures. 2 of my 3 plants had a bit later pollinations than I am used to being on July 13 and 14th. They are doing fine now and are as big as anything I have ever had for their age. If the good weather continues I should be ok.

Rock, there's a good article about growing giant tomatoes by John Lyons on the GVGO website. Go to www.gvgo.ca and click on the articles page.

I have one growing at 48 inches circ now but Im worried about the plant, some secondaries and my main turned to a very light green and stopped growing and some secondaries are a dark green, especially my secondary vine with my pumpkin on it.what would cause certain sections of the plant do that,Ive been using diesase control and been using some insect killers on my plants

Chlorosis is my guess as I have had it and it resembles your problems. Too high of nutients can cause it amoung other things. Your plant is starving because it is unable to feed on certain nutients. A high/low ph can cause this also. Check out my 04 diary and compare. I lost everything in two weeks after starting very well. Good Luck Marty
