Just thought Id let ya know that my zuchinnis are all done for the season, reason,SVB. I pulled the three plants up today and counted 61 SVB larvae doing their thing. Guess who is going fishing? As for my pumpkins, I only had two on the same vine and I was able to cut the vine out, rest of the plant looks good, I hope.

Croley Keep me updated on your plant situation, As myself I pulled 2 plants in the main patch this afternoon because of too many SVB'S and no fruit were setting . I am left with ONE Plant and Friday I noticed SVB sawdust with pin holes on the main vine just 2 of them. I ended up makeing 2 splices and pulling the suckers out. I then applied some garden sulphur and burried all my vines includeing the spliced areas this afternoon with peatmoss and watered the plant well along the stump and entire main vine and all secondarys. Plant still looks good with nice perky leaves and 2 fruits set ( both less then 10 days old).
Fingers are crossed that I get something off this plant yet this year even if its small LOL

Dave sorry to hear SVB put the hurt on ya..This is the first year that I actually had some zukes. I also read using BT injected into the vine will also stop the larvae from feeding. I put the collected larvae into a container with some vines and this morning I checked it and they did a job on the piece of the vine inside the container. I havent had a chance to fish yet, canning vegetables, but they will be fish bait. This is my third year growing giant pumpkins and learning every day from this site. First year 142#, second year 453#, this year who knows. I planted 5 plants and 4 have pumpkins but one plant, none. Go figure. Guess I should do a thorough check for SVB on my good plants. I'll let you know how all goes this year. Im growing for fun, but may enter the local contest but havent made up my mind yet. There are no big contests close. How long have you been growing? Good luck on your plant and make sure your vines are buried once they dry out from your surgery. Croley
