I have an eighty pound pumpkin growing on the main vine as well as a 30 pounder on a secondary vine. Last night the 30 pounder split (1/2" by 4") Am I watering the plant too much? The 80 punder looks great and is growing 2 inches a day and is 28 days since pollination. Should I hold off on watering for a few days? How much should I be watering it in Santa Cruz, California. I've got an aged maneuer mound that it is growing out of. It's probably getting an average of 5 gal a day. Is that too much? Thanks for the help.-

I would hold off on any fertilizers if you are using any but 5 gals. a day seems like not enough. (or are you just watering around the stump?) I water the whole lenght of the plant and all of the secondarys. I dont know exactly but I give each plant about 20 gals. or more per plant per day. Even more recently because its been 104 degrees the past couple days with a heat index of 119 degrees. Good Luck. Kevin

I haven't used any fertilizers in a few weeks except folier spraying fish emultion and seaweed once a week. I am just watering around the stump and a few secondarys.
