I'm just now getting to putting something under my 66lb pumpkin. I am planning on putting plywood down first ( to keep out the gophers and then a carpet pad and last the pumpkin. Is this ok? Is sand better? I'm going to try a carpet pad as a shade cover too. Any thoughts there? Thanks for the help-

Yes to plywood and sand..NO to Carpet Pad...Holds to much moisture.

Just be aware that growing on plywood makes the bottom absolutely flat as a pancake (you may not care). I would drill multiple holes in the plywood for drainage. Sand under the plywood can't hurt.
