Well a rather large storm rolled thru today & it now looks as though someone made crop circles in my patch. I'm not writing this for 20+ posts saying "I feel for ya" or "I'm so sorry", I need advice. Basically I lost all the inner leaves, the end of the main has leaves & the last 2/3rd's of each secondary still has leaves ( once they upright themselves from the sun). All the plant is in front of the pumpkin & there is always new growth trying to shoot out. I just drenched every vine on the plant with symbrew & am foliar spraying 10-8-8 tonight. Should I allow some new growth to come out? Or should I ride it out with the plant I still have. Any & all advice is greatly appreciated...............Paul

I would definitely let some knew growth go since you lost so much of the plant, especially if it's over dirt where you can get more root growth. I've always hit my plants with vitamin B-1 after major stress or disasters nd they seems to recover much quicker. B vitamins help with stress. Jimmy

Paul,
I believe this to be similar to the hail storm that Joe Pukos had to deal with a few years ago.
I would fertilize in moderation to regrow as much canopy as possible. I suippose the only matter for debate is; How many square feet of leaves are needed to reach your goals? If you no longer have that much area, then what if any harm is there in allowing the plants to produce the "replacement"?

i had this problem about 2 yrs ago, hail and high winds took out 90% of the plant. I let it grow anywhere it could and fill in. But I was hitting hard with fertilizer too. So use your judgement.

You have the same luck as i have. I have 9ft of main left in front of Pumpkin. letting all the growth come out in front of pumpkin. lost most of the secondary vines. Im still using symbrew & 10-8-8 & the rest of the Agrow-k program.seems to be working pretty well. 79in cir. pollinated on June 28th. Good luck Ed

Thanks for the input guys, and thanks to the helpful e-mails others sent. I'm waiting till Wednesday to start evaluating what way to go next with the repair job. I did up my fertilizer program a little & I'll be real interested to see what my 20 day measurements will be Friday. Those numbers will dictate a lot in what direction I go.......Paul
