Here in northern Illinois it is hot, hot, hot.Such that I am having trouble getting fruit to set.Normally the first week of September is the last decent week of growth.Has anyone tried to get another 3 weeks of quality growth out of September and how did they do it.Thanks,Phil(down but not ready to give up).

Its very important to have good fungicides because powdery mildew is a big problem in September. Frost probably shouldn't be a concern until October.

My first year I got started late, pollinating late July. I put on 320 lb from Aug 15 to Sept 15 ending up at 434. I was covering it at night and misting under the plastic to keep warm. If I'd a did fungicide as AussieMaster wisely suggests, I'd a got a little more. . .the patch was getting pretty white

we used shazzys ice method and all the pumpkins we have set where all pollinated on 90 degree days lots of shade and ice helped them to keep, dont give up keep at it even with the drought and generic seeds and the cukes things are still okay here because we did not give up lol.
