I have several GPs that have gone from 'smooth' pale yellow - to deeply ribbed orange... their growth have all slowed. Did they mature early?

Darn, should I go ahead and 'harvest' - hope to try another female? I've got two possibly three in this stage (third has gone ribbed - but is still more yellow)

The 517 Glover hasn't gained any in four days, looks like it lost .5 today (orange and getting lighter orange stripes) ...665 Mudd is still gaining slow and steady each day..(but VERY deep orange..)

Were they shaded?

Regardless, I'd keep them shaded & on for as long as the keep growing. They will always keep better on the plant than off so long as they're still growing. Even if growth is very slow.

i was wondering that too we kept are pumpkins shaded from the start and was told that genetics turn pumpkins orange early we did not cull the pumpkins as they where growing slow and now the lead pumpkin in growth is gary a deep orange pumpkin who went from pale yellow with slow growth too a great grower all because we gave him a chance im not a pro but if you have a gut feeling go with it.

The one that has apparently stopped growing... Should I wait a couple more days - then cull it if there's no more growth? The plant's healthy and may produce more females with the pumpkin off... and I still have 13 weeks before frost to let a second pumpkin mature....

I did start shading two weeks ago ...
