Many of us have been plagued with an unusual season regarding pollinations. After the first infertile round, the second round consisted of pollinating everything, both primary and secondary. Much information exists regarding primary vs. secondary sets, this is not the case here LOL. Any experience with only secondary fruit selection ex... closest to the crown [can't say stump], more salad behind the secondary, length of secondary etc.. Thanks for the input Peter

I would want as much plant I could get in front of the pumpkin as possible. If it's one of the last secondaries on your plant terminate your main past that secondary & let the secondary with the fruit on it continue to grow as a diverted main.

Peter FWIW Had trouble setting fruit on one plant. Set one on the first secondary about 10ft out. Turned out to be a very aggressive vine. I let the vine run about 10 ft after the fruit. Terminated it today for space reasons. 64" day 18. Good luck.

Nu-B slightly confused about terminology describing secondaries. Skip said "first secondary"...is that the one closest to the crown or closest to the main tip. Huff said "in front of the pumpkin"...I assume that means the pumpkin set out past the majority of the growth. All input appreciated. Peace Wayne

In front of the pumpkin means that I prefer to have most of the growth between the stump & the pumpkin. I don't let much go past the pumpkin ( personal preferance).

Wayne....I use terminology like this in all my season's notes: MV3 x self (this means 3rd female on main vine pollinated x self SV3E2 x 879Rockwell* (this means that I pollinated the second pumpkin on the thrid sidevine from the stump on the east side with the 879*. Ill go back at the end and get the distance from the stump-with all the curving of vines etc its easier that way.
