I've noticed that some pumpkins have this. I have one on one of my pumpkins, that is about 4" in diameter around the blossom end. Is there a term for this. Do you know what I'm referring to? If your remember Petey the dog on The Little Rascals(Our Gang Comedies), he had a black ring around one eye. The ring around my blossom end is gray in color(like a russeting)and about 1/2" in width.
I've noticed a minor split in this area I'm hoping it will not be a problem. Are these rings a problem area for splits? I have a digital picture, but haven't figured out how to get it on my diary yet.

Sorry for the double post. I corrected the spelling on the title, but not in time to stop the first post.

Sounds like a "Baboon Butt" which can be a problem.

i have one on my 915.5 dieff. plant that has a baboon butt. i'm glad someone posted this because i've been trying to think of a term to call this. i have been wondering the same thing about it being a problem. thanks for the reasurance christy. i guess that trait was passed on to your 915.5. the 915.5 is a beast of a plant and it has my biggest fruit so far.i hope it hangs in there. steve

My 572 Moore has this 'baboon butt'... Good descriptive term! Course it's also shaped like a torpedo as well... I'm calling it 'the big monster'... Since it's rapidly catching up in circumference to all the pumpkins 10 days it's senior!

I do recall that all the pumpkins that I culled from this particular plant had very large blossom rings...
