This has been an odd season in the patch by the Rio Verde. I am still trying to get fruit set on a couple plants and I've given up viewing other growers diaries because....well, lets not go there. Anyhoo, can anyone tell me what the latest pollination date is for a fruit that has made the thousand pound benchmark? All my plants are late this year and though I'm setting fruit, the window for optimum growth is shrinking fast. I'd like to believe I still have a shot at the four digit mark even though there's nothing in the patch to brag about yet.

I am with you Tiller. I have a nice big plant that looks healthy but won't pollinate. 0 for 10 at this point. Icing/shading hasn't helped. Just hoping I can get one to take soon. At this time I am trying to pollinate everything on all vines just to see if one will make it. Some never grow and rot. Some get as big as baseballs and rot. Not sure what to do or try at ths point.

It happend to be on my *874 Dieff plant aswell,I couldnt get a female to set on that plant for nothing,all my others did ok. Im thinking that 50 percent shade during the day played a big part in mine aborting,plant grew great on the other hand.

No Place Special

I agree, the 21st is my cut of date for competition plants. Im making one exception this yr, the 808 Beachy opens tomorrow and I will pollinate it and grow it for competition. Anything that is not pollinated by tomorrow will be left to run wild for halloween pumpkins for Family, friends and selling.
