Every day, the leaves on our smaller plant wilts. I imagine it is because of the heat or lack of water. I mist it several times a day from early morning. Along with the cucumbers that do the same thing. Is there anything that we can do to avoid this? Thanks.

It's wilting because the plant is under some sort of stress. If the water is not cooling it down, than the stress isn't the heat. Don't know what else it could be. Maybe to much sun. My new small leaves on my plants will wilt before the big ones do.

The misting does seem to help. In a few hours the leaves are back to normal. But that does not mean that it is caused by the heat. Probably is I guess.

my plants athough mutts me and sis have noted some take the heat well and some wilt right away so we misted and misted finally gave in a built the plant a shade structure so not only does it help the plant but the pumpkins that are set already have a shade structure built.

I find that watering (overhead, so that the leaves get wet) helps a lot with wilting. I do this one or 2 times a day, depending on how hot it is.

the leaves wilt because the "stomas" on the undersides of the leaves, the points at which the plant takes in and
maybe lets out respiration/transpiration products, close in order to preserve the water that the plant will die without....

it could be that the plant's root system is not the greatest at providing the leaves with the necessary
amount of water in order to keep up with the higher temperatures. it could be a number of things, but as long as the plant "perks up" as soon as cool watering is applied,
i think you have nothing to worry about.

my 895.5* Hester was wilting pretty badly on a 94-95-degree day about a week ago. i stuck a three-arm sprinkler right in the geometric center of the plant and within two minutes of the water starting to hit it, the plant bounced right back to "full attention". the leaves that were still outside the watering circumference remained wilted,
but have had NO problems aside from SOME wilt when it is hot out.
