Can't say as I know the answer to your question. However I would be concerned about drainage.

paul, i use the housing insulation that is at Home Depot
or Chase Pitkin, it could be called "RIGID" housing insulation, made of some isocyanopolymeric blah blah stuff,
it is right in with the pink and blue, 4' X 8' sheets
of insulation, probably in one of the last aisles where the shingles and insulation are....
it is up to 1 inch thick, has aluminum foil on each side of it, and is about 12 bucks for prob'ly a 3/4-inch thick piece. just have them cut it in half for you, 4' X 4',
just right for placing under your (over 500!!!)-pound fruit.
used it for my 575 anyway, helps with coloration and
pests from underneath, allows for drainage more than
something that will definitely form a "bowl" under your fruit.
maybe Tyvek on top of the RIGID, topped-off with SAND, huh? the "treatment"! eric

I use it. It is one inch thick and it is cut into 1 sq.ft pieces. Since the pieces ar not that big and they do not lie flat, I do not have much concern about the drainage since it runs off. I also use sand on top of the insulation to suport the pumpkin and it's weight. I hope this is not wrong. Too late now, the pumpkin is too big for me to lift. Hope that helps. Good luck.

ERIC!, Sorry I did not read your post before I posted mine. I hope I did not step on you in anyway. Sorry if I did. Good luck.

if you stepped on me, i didn't feel it.
ha ha ha
actually, PIECES of the housing
insulation with the sand filling the cracks in between them and Tyvek on top of all that or without the Tyvek on top of it sounds like a drainable, yet supportive concoction! hmmmm
sounds like a good material to use for jeff517's pumpkin-protector, since i do NOT think Tyvek (like the material that FedEx
envelopes are made out of) will let any light through, only VERY small amount if any....soon to try these things---eric
