Hello Folks- Just a couple quick reminders for those of you new to the measuring game or who may have forgotten. For those keeping track of data for the Ailts-Landry study, we'd appreciate adhering to these guidlines:
-Pollination day is considered Day "0", not day 1. -When measuring cicumference, try not to include the blossom nipple. It might look good on paper, but you are overestimating the size of your fruit.
It would be nice to develop some standardized guidelines that are a little more expansive than what is provided on the Stellpflug charts, just so we're all on the same page.

I always started to lay the tape above the stem, around the widest parts of the pumpkin, to finish under the blossom nipple, bringing the start point of the tape and the remaining part of the tape as close as possible together right there and read the result for circ. For the "left to right" method with 2 points on the ground level with the pumpkin bottom and the highest point on top it´s fairly easy. From stem to blossom at the ground level is difficult since you need to go over the fruit from back to front every time. Maybe a good illustration could help to develop a standard for using the tape.

Thanks for the info! An illustration would be handy, because I think I'am measuring wrong. From stem to blossom is the one I messed up before. I thought the tape started where the stem starts over the top to the blossom. Really its ground to ground over the top on the stem, blossom axis.

The study is based on over 80 pumpkins with weights in excess of 744 pounds. Data will once again be collected by Joe or myself beginning in early October.
Current Bench marks for 1000 pound fruit are listed below.
Good Luck to all and Good growing.
Day 10--25" Day 20--68.5" Day 30--108" Day 40--134.5"
10-20 Daily Gain minimums 4.34"/day 20-30 Daily Gain minimums 3.98 30-40 Daily Gain minimums 2.60

This thing is fun, but I added a little something to it. I added the goal measurment for each day. Put it next to the gain column. Its just a rough est. of what I should be at.
Goal 25 29.3 33.6 37.9 42.2 46.5 50.8 55.1 59.4 63.8 68.2 72 76 80 84 88 92 96 100 104 108 111 113 116 118 121 124 126 129 132 134

So according to that, my 2 ott measurements and circumference add up to 44" for a day 9 pumpkin. Is that possible? Was the 25" all 3 measurements?
