This is the first year I have used hydroponics to grow "AG", I had a major set back a month ago from a hail storm. Presently have 2 nice pumpkins started. The plants are being grown on a trelis, six feet above the ground, they will never touch the soil, and it also makes it easy to spray under the leaves. After the hail storm on Jun 14 I started more plants and they are growing great. I know hydroponics will work, however not sure how large a pumpkin you can grow. The plants are very healthy and works where there is limited space or poor soil. Presently I have 3 plants in an 10 by 35 foot area.

What is the best recipe for the solution?
Do you spray roots lightly or immerse?

I use products from General Hydroponics, the program has 3 different products that are mixed according to the stage of the plant. It is recommended to use only products formulated for hydroponics, not products such as Miracle Gro. I mix to a nutrient strength of 1200 to 1400 ppm. Each day I have to add 5 gal of water to the solution per plant. My system is "home made," part of the roots are submersed and part have solution dripped over them. Spraying the roots would probably be better, maybe next year.
