At 12 ft the main of my 1370 Rose is now a fat, solid triple vine with no tendency to divide. At every node point leaves and tendrils emerge 3 times one upon the other, and there seems to be no development of secondaries though I have a few at the beginning of the main. Just posted a pic in the photo gallery.
Since I lost the main of my 996 Bobier due to self-termination, I fear I´m going to lose another main here. But I just wanted to ask before I take out the knife.

Shannon (Linus) had the same problem with his 1370. It sounds like it's genetic. You could train one of the secondaries as a new main if you cut off the triple viner. Or you could slit the growth tip into two sections, and see if it starts growing normals vines after that.

Ingo,

there is no hope for this type of vine. If they are double, that's ok, they will split up into two normal vines most of the times.
If they are flat (triple or whatever) the only thing you can do is cut it off right after a good and normal looking secondary. If this secondary is at only 4 ft then cut off the remaining 8ft of flat vine. If the secondary is at 6ft cut off the 6ft of flat vine.
Do you already have females on the secondaries?

Your picture has just been approved and I looked at it.
And yes, it is a true flat vine (why do you call it a triple vine?). Do what I suggested. I think this is the best advice I can give you.

My third plant, the 1260 Weir, also has a triple main that divided several times. Nice plants. Don´t expect much now for 2005...
I have females on the secondaries, but most of them not in good positions and pretty close to the stump. In my situation, I assume I have to try it with every female that will open, but the males are behind.
There was a pollinated pumpkin on the 1370 main vine but the blossom looks cracked so I think I can forget about it. Right now if I cut the main vine so close to the stump, there won´t be much rest of that plant.

Martin, triple because if I could split this main there would be 3 single mains. Unfortunately I can´t...
