Several days ago, I trimmed the one secondary at about 10 to 12 ft and tossed the cut off vine into the pumpkin patch. The leaves are all dead. This morning when I went into the garden I noticed that a male flower had bloomed on the vine that I had trimmed a few days ago. How is this possible? Has anyone else seen this before?

Ya can't kill 'em. Stick a cut of end in a bucket of pure sand. It will root, grow and make new flowers, to your observing pleasure.

These things are much like tomatoes in that they will root if given the slightest chance. Many times I have found suckers that were cut from a tomato plant growing happily along in the compost pile.

There is so much moisture in the vine after you chop it, it could stay alive without roots for a number of days. I cut a piece of vine off and kept growing another couple inches until the sun vinaly dried it out.
