Well, I've put dried blood around the plants but they soon out grew that. So I set a have a heart trap, no luck yet. And, I just saw that it has eaten the tip off my 1236 eaton. If I catch that thing, it will be the next thing on my grill. I buried the tip and I am training a secondary to be the main, but It now looks like my plans for this year are in the can. I hope I can get something out of the plants. Are there bounty hunters for woodchucks?????

I made cages to cover my mains as they grow,3x4& 2ft tall out of quarter- in, galv screen wire, and put half in pvc pipe around bottom to stableize & protect mains from being cut.but i bury mains first then set on dirt .I grew a 672 on secondary with a few mistakes even!!the next secondary may not be most agressive , so watch for right one ,i also cut & buryed secondarys close- so plant would put energy into That one only . also ran secondarys off that secondary !!got to 672 lbs went 20% heavy

a 22 is the only solution.

If you've got any pruned secondaries, place them in the trap for bait. The stupid chucks can't resist...Good luck!

I've owned a 10/22 and it's a real nice rifle. I could be wrong but I believe any form of silencer/moderator is illegal in all 50 states here though? I personally favor my Rossi 15 shot pump myself though.... :-)

A good, hot electric fenced with 2 wires close to the ground works wonders. Put up more wires up to about 6' and it keeps the deer out also.

between the use of warrior-t, and now (this year) the very frequent use of fish and seaweed as a foliar spray, i haven't had any problems. i have even had a few different deer tracks at the base of the plant, with no bite marks. not sure if that's the reason, but i know i wouldn't want to eat those leaves.

I agree Andy, I have been using the same, and the addition of coyote urine, no troubles so far.

Well, if I can't catch the critter, it looks like I'm going to have to invest in some warrior-t, fish and seaweed. I'll have to do something. I've essentially lost two real good seeds. Thanks for all the comments, and advise everyone

I have a woodchuck issue as well. I have fox urine in a container haning in the patch. Just hold the cup really still when obtaining it. Also, I have some dry fertilizer from Agway that has human and carnivore waste that is supposed to scare away even stupid chucks. It is 6-3-3 or something like that. I also have a havahart trap that is still empty. The 22 works the best but I am too close to civilization to discharge without being sent to the big house.

22 works good & farthermore the shotshell rounds are much less loud!! & easer to hit them! i am good shot but there so small & even smaller under fur , like trying to hit a quarter at 100 yds!!! much easer with the shellshot round !!

Are you serious you cant put a moderator on a .22. It almost to the point over here you dont buy a .22 without one they are a must have for rabbit and spot lighting possums.

Now that we're talking numbers! I've trapped 70 from one 5 acre field this season and more to go. Why? The State of New York has an open field next door that grows 'em! Great neighbor! If you had mice wouldn't you get rid of them? They are like mice - big mice. So, I'll keep more than a dozen traps set around the field all season. And then we have the deer that are eating plants. I guess a nuisance permit is in the offing! Wildlife and pumpkins don't always mix! Last year it was humans! And, we're in a drought! Plants look good - pumping water. Lgourd
