I established a ground level water hole with an old garbage can lid. You should see the little critters using it, in this hot weather. It is placed at the edge, of the patch. All critters like edges.

I highly suggest you do this too. Three years now, with this being the longest hottest sustained period, the critters find water and they do not have, to chew, to get it. What they will chew is being reported, on this site daily.

As an aside I give them a small block, of salt, to chew on too. It is being used, to get salt and water, rather than my plants and hoses.

This sure beats having Squirrels chewing on females for water like 2 summers ago here. I've noticed that while we have a small fish pond nearby, the waterfall scares the most timid critters away. So small dishes & a still birdbath are good ideas in the weather.

Tremor, Ya that happened to me last year, a day or 2 before the female flower was about to open or right after pollination took place i would go out to find chunks missing from the still too small fruit which would then abort from stress and damage. Got that taken care of this year. Critter ridder seems to work awsome along with 2 old landry baskets i plan on covering my fruits with till they are of desecent size

Running, dribling, and splashing water is generally proposed, in wildlife support articles, as the number one thing, to bring into your property design,to attract the small critters.

Both my neighbors have waterfalls, streams and ponds. This helps me a bunch, in my opinion. They like to see the little critters. When I grow juicy plants I am just as happy to see them have the majority of the traffic. :)

I have not had problems with rabbits in the past until this year. We are are in a borderline drought situation here and the only tender things to eat unfortunately are my pumpkin vine tips.Docgipe's suggestion makes a lot of sense.Phil
