I think that most growers say not to pollinate your first female flower until at least July first. Much to my surprise, My first female flower blossomed early this morning. So I swabbed it with two male flowers. Is it too early to hand pollinate a female flower for this season? There was a third male flower but it was so much smaller than the first two. I did not swab the female with that one. Would it be ok to pollinate a female with a much smaller male flower? Would there be anything different with the genetics of the much smaller male flower?

pollinate it and let it grow, see what it does compared to later pollinations. You can pollinate in late June and be ok. Don't think it would matter which flower you use. Jimmy

Size of anything has nothing to do with the genetics of that part. I would have pollinated too. If later efforts fail you still have this one as a back up.

This female was pollinated with males from the same vine. Only one male flower was small. I did not use that one to pollinate the female. No male flowers appeared today on my other plant.

more important than the date is the amount of sides you have before the fruit we did not go every other side this year and as long as we are a minimum of 10 ft out and have seven sides on each side of the main its a go
