If you have, could you taste it and smell it for me , for I have not done either of them for about 8 weeks now and throw in some 90 plus temps and that has been my year so far. So I had to throw out the pumpkin bibles (2 weeks ago ) and have went nocturnal watering , sprayings , I also have taken my wind breaks down for max air serculation to help with the up coming battle with PM I might encounter. but I have to admit my plants have responed well ,they are growing like weeds , weeds I still do that during the day light, dam city water here I thought it was the beer that was putting the weight on me. But I am looking for some Idea's on how to better my chances on getting a pumpkin to take in this weather ? I am still looking at another week of High temps. So with that said , has anyone seen the rain and if you do please taste and smell it for me , I am missing them feeling Hey Good Luck To Everyone This Year GO CUBS Gene

Having similar conditions here in Middle TN. Though we've had ONE rainstorm in the last 6 weeks - that was over 2 weeks ago!
I must say - of the 15 GP varieties that have 'survived' these conditions so far.. the 572 Bosworth, 572 Moore, 517 Glover, 265 Foss and 1008.5 Mudd - are all growing well.. the two 572's are even rooting at EVERY NODE along their vines!!
The 625 Foss is also doing well - but it shows a lot of heat stress each day...
Along with planting them over the septic drainage field - adding a lot of organic matter - I've also been 'mulching' by putting empty feed bags down and putting straw/hay over it. Helps retain what moisture there is...
There were some storms east of us - the weatherman's calling for pop-up severe storms.. so I went ahead and sprayed the seven, rolled all my car windows down, left a few bales of quality hay out, watered last night - and the kids and I are going to wash our trucks today.. can't think of anything else to jinx myself into rain!**grin**

We received a twenty minute downpour late yesterday afternoon and then nothing. About a week and a half ago we had some shower activity.

with regards to your question about increasing your chances of fruit set in the high heat here is what we have done these last three days of 90 degrees plus
pollinate as early as possible in the a.m. shade over the pollinated pumpkin
fan running on low or nmedium about a ft away from the pumpkin
one gallon container of frozen water between fan and fruit -- setting about three or so inches from the pumpkin
pray a lot

It's been in Idaho...
Nine years out of ten, our conditions are reversed. You say six or eight weeks without rain, and I say, "SO?" ;-)

Look outside this morning Rob. The thunder woke my big bad Boxer dog who then woke me. The drought is over in CT.

You northern BASTARDS!! Quite taking our rain!! All I did yesterday was for naught - scattered severe storms literally stopped 1 mile from my farm!! Though I have a very clean tuck (I even got a BIG load of feed - and purposely left it parked in the driveway.. **grin** figured I'd dash out and pull it in the barn when the storm hit... It's still in the driveway!!)
Well, we do have three other very dirty vehicles.. Guess me and the kids will wash another today..... Our chances for even scrattered storms ends after today - then it's at least seven more dry days...

geno, i hear ya. i have tried everything. i have one or 2 pollinations a day over the last 6 days, all 90 plus temps and all at 12' through 19' on vines, hoping like hell the frozen jugs and fan like dick wallace said does the trick. i got one set on a 96 degree day, that is if it didn't abort today in the crazy heat. keep trying gene and a nice break in the weather is coming, (3 days below 90) over the fourth of july weekend. and sooner or later, it will rain. over 22 days without a drop here. shazzy ps how about them whitesox.....damn cubbies got us evened up gene.

Hot and dry here in my part of Ontario. If we don't get rain soon, I'm going to have to start hauling water. I usually don't start hauling until the 1st of Aug. This is way too early.
