I read some where that each leaf will produce about 2 pound of pumpkin, if so Carlson would have had over 700 leafs, any body have data on this, How many leafs do your plants have so far? How big was your last pumpkin and what was yyour leaf count?

In past years when I was doing Big Max and other store bought variety the most leafs my plants had was 49 leafs if I counted right. On that plant I grew a 132 pound pumpkin and a 65 pound pumpkin. I have not counted my AG plants leafs verses pumpkin weight. I know a grower with AG's that had 800 plus leafs when we counted them but in recent years he has cut down on plant size to stream line it and he thinks the pumpkins get more energy this way not the plant. Last year his adverage was about 400-500 leafs. I also stream line mine to about the same number of leafs. Good Luck, Kevin

Len Stellpflug believes in more like 4 to 5 pounds per leaf.
i would assume this is with every available vine buried and
everything else working very well.
i mean, if my 575 of last year on my 950.4 Boyton
had had 287.5 leaves on it i would have had a second patch dedicated to it, lol. the area dedicated to the plant was like 650 sq. ft. or so. i do not know how many actual leaves were on it, or where any info is about the subject. good luck, anyway! eric

I was out in the patch a few hrs. ago, I squated down, and a small leaf at the end of the secondary caught between my thigh and my calf. At first I thought, 'Oh no! I've broke the secondary growth tip.' I was relieved it was only a leaf. Then I thought, 'This one leaf could cost me a few pounds at weighoff.'
I'll try and get a tertiary leaf to fill in the spot. I need all the leaves I can get, as I'm pruning off every other secondary.
I'm wondering if leaf surface area is a better guide to potential, instead of leaf number? Good question though.
