i like it Pap, that is a good idea. the only considerations to take into place are the difference in climates from grower to grower. maybe a handicap system could be put into place based on past personal bests of each grower and the lattitude of their patch. lattitude research could show which zone has the best chance for weight. then maybe those in the prime zone get their weights to count exactly as weighed. the next 2 adjacent zones could have a slight multiplier based on calculating that zones average for big ones and dividing it into the prime zone's average number. and then continue the process unitl you hit alaska and florida or even the bahamas. also you would have to take into account europe's differences in climates and which country is closer to the equator. this may seem like a lot of work, but those down south would have to be on a level playing field with those in the prime zone. this sounds like a nice off-season project for someone or some people to come up with the perimaters for on online pool that has a handicap system based on years of experience, personal bests, and lattitude research.
its just an idea i am throwing out to level the playing and get more people involved in the pool and sweeten the pot.
another pool that could be created and would be very easy to set up for this year would "Guess the Heaviest Official Pumpkin Pool in 2005". we can run 3 pools, a 5 dollar pool, a 10 dollar pool, and 20 dollar pool. everyone gets one chance to guess in each pool, and the closest to the actual weight of the heaviest official pumpkin grown in 2005 wins the cash. if their is a tie in the closesness to the actual weight, then the cash gets divided accordingly.
i would be in on either kind of pool and help someone to get them organized if we get enough reponses and interest of those who would like to participate.

Jeff I like the idea of the handicap system - 2 wallaces x 200lbs each + the experience factor 15 vs 5 @ 50 lbs per year another 500 = 900 lb total Pap I'm in !!!

Come one Pap, let's just have a "Wallace Grower's Pool" because anyone else who isn't growing a 1068 or a 500 doesn't have a chance to win anyway! First one to 1500 pounds wins. Mine is pollinated at 14 feet!
