Does anyone have any data (or personal experience) pertaining to how far out on the main vine most 1000+ pumpkins have been set? I'd be interested in finding out if there is a "range" where most of them have been set on the main vine.

Recently I looked at all the pumpkins listed on the AGGC that were over 1300 pounds. Here is what I found:

13 pumpkins listed.

Shortest vine: two pumpkins had 10' vines.

Longest vine: 23'

Average vine length of pumpkins over 1300 pounds: 13.34'

One additional note, I was interested in the square foot size of the plant as well. 12 of the pumpkins grown over 1300 pounds also listed their plants square foot size.

Smallest: 300

Largest: 900

Average square foot size of 1300+ pound pumpkins: 662.5

Yeah but Beet, you did not give the standard deviation or the median in your analysis ;)

Good job on the info!

That is good information for a starting look at vine size and plant postion as it relates to pumkin sizes. I know that someone out there was compileing the same informtion from several years worth of data. I am not discounting what beet has stated but be careful with conclusions because there are only 10 to 15 samples to go by. 500 or more would be ideal.

Hope the weather is warming up again in Chyene beet, I know that is snowed on the pass about 2 weeks ago! Crazy times!

Beet, quick question. When you list vine lengths, is that total vine length or length to where the pumpkin was grown? Thanks for the great info. Peace Wayne
