I guess no WR this year. I predict this is where the WR growth curve starts flatting out. Even if 1500 is broken in the next few years, 1600 will be a long time coming. I also predict that the 1400+ club will remain a small group of elite growers, for quite awhile. But what do I know????

Way to hot and dry here in Iowa. Im not saying that there wont be 1000 plus lbers but that conditions are not right for a world record in Iowa this yr, unless things change very soon. Don has all his ducks in a row and he will probably blow my doors off. Also Darell Walters has a VERY great chance of doing something special this yr. I think Carlson, Peterson and Myself are just trying to keep our heads above water...hummm, water bad example there is no water this yr.

I did some mathematics to help solve what the weight of the next world record will be, and here is what I came up with.
Over the past five years, the world record has always been broken. From 2000 to 2005, their weights have been, in this order, 1140, 1262, 1337, 1385, and 1446. The difference in weight gain per year between 2000 and 2001 (1140 & 1262) was 122 lbs, the difference between 2001 & 2002 was 75, the difference between 2002 & 2003 was 48, and the difference between 2003 & 2004 was 61 pounds. Adding these four difference numbers and dividing by four gets us an average of 76.5 pounds. Add this number to 1446, and you get 1520.5 pounds. However, let us go a bit further. Take the greatest gain per year, 122, and subtract it by the least gain per year, 48, to get 74. Divide 74 by 2 to get 37, and add this number to 1520.5 to to get 1557.5, and then take 1520.5 and subtract it by 37, to get 1483.5. This is the range of potential world record for next year. However, even though 1483.5 is part of the potential range of weights, consider that the smallest increase over the past five years has been 48, which when added to 1446 gets you 1494. And that was the lowest weight gain. Interesting, huh?
As to the weather being appropriate for a world record, that's always the kicker in a mathematical conclusion like this. I don't think that there will be a world record from the Northwest unless the weather smartens up double quick. I have no idea what the weather like on the other side of the continent, though.
