I have definetly figured out that I have a flat vine. It is about 2 inches across in width, and closer to square looking then the normal tublar look. It does not appear to be a double, but instead just flat.

What the heck do I do now? The plant is otherwise in great shape with huge 15 to 18 inch across leaves, and has a 3 foot vine so far, with a few male flowers not open but on.

Do flat vines put on females without problems? Do they have side vines like other plants. Do the set fruit as easily. Is it a crap shoot more so then Usual.

I have a back up pumpkin right next to it, not as far along but in good shape as well, and with a normal vine. Should I pull the flat?

Anybody that has help would really be appreciated. I am at a lost, I have never grown on a mutant vine before.

It doesn't sound like a flat vine to me...just a rectangular vine. The absence of comments like "theres leaves coming out from everywhere" or "I have two females at every corner" and "Tendrils that could choke a horse" I'd say your caught up on thinking a non-round vine is bad.........are the leaves coming out like normal (alternating sides)?

I`m very much interested in the topic "rectangular vine", have a few pics in my diary showing a friend`s plant. We`re both first-time-growers and really aren`t quite sure if it is considered a flat or a rectangular vine, he has. The tip of the main vine is very bushy ... How flat must the vine be to considered flat?
