A novice gardner requested some seeds so her children could try to grow one for the Pumpkin Show. I gave her three and the instructions about growing them included a 6 hour soak before putting them in potting soil. The next time I saw her she had soaked them for 6 days and had just put them in the pots. Ten days later I took a small plant to her so she would have at least one plant and she informed me all 3 had sprouted and were doing just fine!

I soak for three hours. In three years and perhaps fifty or more seed I have had exactly one that did not germinate and emerge within four days.
Many seed companies consider 90% germination excellent.

I wish I had 90% germination of my garden seeds!
