Is it completely necessary? My plants are very protected from the wind, so there is little danger of them coming uproooted that way. The vines are sending down roots all over the place. I try to be as lazy as possible so...do I HAVE to bury the vines? What's the worst that could happen if I don't? What location of the vines is the most impoartant to bury?

nope, you don't have to bury them. they can take care of themselves just fine. just a tad bit of soil at the leaf junctions to encourage rooting, and to act as a cover to keep the roots from drying out if you want to. that being said, i bury the heck out of all of my vines.

not here. them things will lay the egg at the top of the leaf stalk or in the major veins if there isn't access to the vine. the grubs eat their way into the stalk, fall down the tube, then into the vine they go. haven't had to worry about them in a while, though. (warrior-t)
