We had a heck of a storm come through about 45 minutes ago and I thought for sure my plants would be blown away, it was the worst storm we had in this area this year. Thank goodness I took that extra time for the wind breaks cause no doubt my season would be over right now.

Hope everyones plants survived from this storm!

brooks, see you THINK your season would be over but i am in the pro-tornado way of thinking now. these plants are amazing. kelly klinker (carlos if you want to see his diary) and i both had personal bests come post-tornado flattening. I HAD A TELEPHONE WIRE LAYING IN MY PATCH last june!! his tornado was the year before. heck since i didnt get a tornado yesterday i may just go out and flatten my plants with huge fans (just kidding).

P.S. and brooks, lets not make tom's head get any bigger with those kinds of comments. LOL. sorry tom, i had to, dont get mad.

I had my plants get beat up pretty good yesterday due to persistent high winds. Very frustrating to go to all the trouble only to have the good Lord take a little back a little of what He has given. Nature's pruning, I suppose. I'll go with Christy's way of thinking...maybe this will actually help me somehow! I did have one plant last year in a particularly windy spot that lost a bunch of leaves early, then seemed to adapt and grew shorter, stockier stems that held up better. 803.4 Davies was the plant in question. Many other plants in that location did not adapt in the same way...

I lost 9 plants yesterday. 60 mph sustained winds for about 6 minutes with gusts to 78. So glad I didn't take the time to build wind protection because I'm certain those would have been blown away as well. Yesterday was a sad day.

Cry as I may, I saw several 100 year old oaks laying on the ground. I can't imagine what the homeowners are thinking.

1320 your plants will pop right back up...Destroyed is when they are pulled or twisted so bad they have no choice but to wither and die. They actually look ok for going through a storm.

when the plants are young, they can come back well, especially in june if weather or something else decides to shred them. Just prune off the very damaged parts and let it grow back (using the latest best looking side vine as the new main). It will set you back some, but you should get back in the game. Unless the plants were totally torn out of the ground...thats a different story.

Try growing at the downhill end of 50 acres with a full day of 45mph winds...I went the 60 miles to try and do what I could...got so bad I said what the hay and went home. If they're there next time I go out thats cool...if not...oh well.

lost 2 main vine tips yesterday here even with wind breaks.
that wind was just too strong and freaky. so i will train the secondary before the breaks as the new mains. it wasn't a good day for many of us. nothing to do but keep plugging along. i now will concentrate on my 2 other plants and hope that they produce good ones. the snapped off main plants will get a chance with some secondary pumpkins and if they don't look to be growing too fast, i can always grow 3 pumpkins on each of those plants, all with different crosses for genetic reasons and make them into seed producers if all else fails with them. make the best out of a crappy situation, nothing else you can do.

Rent a school bus G,LOL and park it as a wind protector untill the winds die down, Hey better yet if you know someone who drives a school bus tell em to park it out at your patch untill school starts.
