How many of you keep the back main vine when one grows? And how do you let the back main vine grow if you do let it grow, foward, backward away from the stump,or off to the side? I myself dont like the vine to grow over my stump area. Im thinking about letting the back main grow off my 842 because its in a real good position not to grow over top of my stump.
What do you all think about the back main vine,do you really think that this has no factor over how a single pumpkin grows if you dont grow one off of it or do you think a back main vine is almost like another plant by itself. The back main vine has always had me baffled.

Jack LaRue cuts it off....along with the first two secondarys(one on each side). His theory is that it tells the plant to send its nutrients down the main vine.

i have a plant with one vine going straight and another that was comming out of the stump going the opposite way it looks like a twin vine, the plant is healthy and is growing fast and furious. its weird there twins same length 12 feet out same size secondaries matching males and first females coming in on the same length. This is my first yr growing AGs and i have mutts or open pollinated plants. As for your problem listen to the pros they know all about things im just learning about as for me im keeping my freak because we all deserve a chance lol and its my first yr i can have fun and see what happens. have fun grow big and i will let all know how the twins did at the end of the yr lol
