Amazing.

Big Kahuna 26

Ontario, Canada.

"She planted the date seeds at the end of January after trying to draw them out of their deep dormancy. She first soaked the seeds in hot water to soften the coat, then in an acid rich in hormones, then in an enzymatic fertilizer made of seaweed and other nutrients".

Steve, with that starting solution it seams like she might be a former pumpkin grower.

Could be....LOL.

But then we have "borrowed" processes from the other plant sciences which have proven themselves useful for years. I always wince when folks comment they don't like to use fancy "tricks".

I always wince when a person of that aledged learning level would make the following quote:

The first two leaves looked odd, she said, very flat and pale. "But the third looked like a date leaf with lines, and every one since has looked more and more normal - like it had a hard time getting out of the seed."

I wonder how much more of the story is a fabrication. Lordy most all pumpkin growers should have seen this dead give a way statement. My gut feeling is that the rest of the article may be fraud as well.

Here ia the article with pictures:

Perhaps it is worth noting that Solowey is growing a Date Palm which is a monocot (grass family). So her statement is accurate for the situation.

Amazing to be sure. So educate so that ignorance need not be continued. True that years later avery leaf is still coming from the seed????

Why wouldn't a leaf come from the seed?

Grass is a monocot. From grass seed comes one blade, of grass, that opens and eventually causes the sead coat, to be expelled. As the stem develops, for that first leaf, a region or zone is formed at the base, of that blade, of grass. That region or zone is called the region of differentiation. The region, of differentiation, will determine what develops next. Next forming, from the region of differentiation, is one or both needs, in harmony. That would be more root material or the formation, of the second blade, of grass. Neither root development or any future blades, of grass, comes from the seed or occures within the seed. Everything that happens after the first growing blade happens, in the region, of differentiation.

Therefore the good doctor's comments are indeed incorrect.

I wish to thank a good member, of this board and associates, for helping me say correctly what transpires in the germination and early life, of a monocot or grass family seed.
