Good seed genetics is important. Purchasing these seeds is also important. But there were a couple of really great people here that gave us seeds. We are so thankful. With their kindness and the generosity of knowledge of many of the growers here, my two children and myself gain more and more respect all the time for this community and also for the growers. Though you have shared with others, I have never seen my two children so enthusiastic about gardening. I would just love to grow a 1000 lb pumpkin. But this being the first year any garden was planted where we are growing the pumpkins, I do not know what will grow here. Their excitement and the smiles on their faces everytime they go into the garden sure beats any 1000 lb'er that I could ever grow. Thanks to everyone.

That thing that I have found about kids. Is that they assume everybody has 600lb Jack o Lanterns. I can understand why when you bring them to a weigh off. Now that my daughter is 8 she is starting to realise we have alot bigger pumpkins than the other kids at school. The other day we had hail falling. My daughter was pretty assertive in telling the daycare worker she had to go home and cover the pumpkins because mom and dad were at work.

That is so cool. See that, the kids show more concern than the parents. Good for your daughter. My two boys are 14 and 10. The older is taking this pumpkin garden strictly by the books. No deviation not even for dad. The younger is already planning the carving. We hope your patch turned out ok after that hail. Good luck to you and your daughter growing this year. Hope she gets one bigger than 600 lb for her jack-o-lantern. LOL
