How do most folks like to do this? Leave 2 on a node then remove the next 2? Or is alternating more desirable?

Alternate or oppposite?

personally I am a thinkin that this is the time when you need to be thinking about where and how you want your patch to look like. Start posistioning the vines to best suit your pattern.
Although, on my 770 I have noticed.....well this is what I did....I let the first 2 secondaries on...then cut the 3rd., but on one side of the plant the 3rd is 3-5" above on the main as to where the 3rd is on the other side?...is that normal?...
or do they naturally kitty-corner that way?
am affraid to cut anything on the one side...cuz I dont know if the 3rd is gonna pop-out yet...or if the one kitty-corner is the 3rd.
Anyways...I am trying the crawling spider look this yr on the 770.
dunno if I will succeed or not at making it look like one...but am gonna try (due to square-footage issues)
My other plant the 407 I am gonna attempt "The captain's hook"(are these real names of patterns?..or am I making them up as I go?)...lol

anyways...wish me luck
and to all GOOD LUCK with yours! Tom

I think I will leave two then remove the next two. Though the season may warrant a change, that is the way that I see it now. Good luck.

last year we pruned every other side vine and by the end of july our plants were really to big and the leaves were no where as good a condition as they should have been

this year the only sides we will prune are the ones that are two close together off the main--- so far we have only cut three or four out of a total of six plants and two pollinators

in our patch as mentioned above the leaves just get to big and wear down fast in that condition ,what with some of the sprays we need to use

Service to the leaves and protection, for each leaf, is an issue. Depending, on your wind's common flow, you may get better through the patch flow if the secondaries are open the whole way throught the patch. You can lay your walkway boards, in a straight line, making your entry easier, for any reason. I you happen to have a fogger of major quality the patch could be fed or sprayed by a simple walk around or, in some instances, all from one side.

Developing a canopy that covers the available patch is the ultimate goal. All the under story leaves and those that shade half of the next leaf serve no positive purpose unless you like leaves beating on leaves. The thicker the jungle the easier it is for insects and pathegons to hide and muster up an attack.

Steve,
I like to keep two prune one then two prune one etc. Makes it easy to get in and spray and what not. Don
