Well my area is currently under a Tornado warning, which does not give me a good feeling inside, as I have plants in the open and more vulnerable to wind. Supposedly the cell producing the funnel cloud spotted by officials has tracked away from my home, and has dramatically weakend. Well just now they have dropped the tornado warning, which is a big relief, but you can never predict storms when you have 31'C weather. Fortunetly my home has missed the severe storms, but I am worried about Barrie growers like kahuna3, because the Barrie area recieved 150mm of rain or 15cm (1/2 ft of rain) in just 90 min. This super cell also produced a funnel cloud which made my area go under a tornado warning. With the heat and humidity not leaving for another couple of days, this weather could happen again and everyday they are getting worse and worse, and on top of that parts of Southern Ontario (me) could soon go under a drought warning. AHH its crazy! Hope everyone else is doing okay! I know that a couple of weeks ago there were some big storms south of here in the Central U.S.

Kyle, I'm happy to report all is well here at LanTerra. Lots of rain and wind though. The storms certainly had me jumping about and heading for the basement as the skis turned yellow and then green and the wind suddenly went calm. The pace of the storm abruptly changed as the wind began to swing wildly from from the east and then the north west. Large trees damage and much other wind damage was reported very nearby. Kings Buffet restaurant in Barrie was under 6 feet of water by early evening as the rain accumulated in the flash flood. Damage to the downtown area was minimal, thankfully.
Hail, intense lightning and funnel clouds are forces that all growers cannot control. As my concerns grew during the afternoon it became apparent that the blustery conditions were just what the pumpkin doctor had ordered to end this pesky early season drought.

I seen on the news that you got swamped over there. We got a couple of drops here, but still not enough to get the dirt wet. We're really in need of some rain here, but I don't want any of the wild weather that they received in Barrie.

Phil, I was worried so much about the hail i didn't notice the amount of rainfall was more than 4" with the third batch of storms. We had four cells pass over in a 2 hour period. Only small pea size hail fell here at my location for a short time. My 18% soil said thank you and gobbled up the electrically charged and nitrogen fortified water with little effort.
Today's forecast is for more of the same. Severe T-storms are expected all weekend in Southern Ontario. A timely trip to the store to procure propane, batteries, candles and food is advised today. The power here was on and off a zillion times. I wonder if the Hydro One, strike has anything to do with that? I unplugged all my appliances during the numerous power interuptions.

Well I am glad to here your doing okay, and your plants are good. Oh no I think another storm is back, because the 400 highway by my house is going slow. Yesterday a storm washed out the highway near Cookstown. I am glad to hear you didn't get a Tornado either. There was a funnel cloud spotted in Innisfil by OPP officers. Here in the marsh we have had nothing. I a little storm came that caused a downpore for about a min or two and then left. My plants were covered and protected from the danger. As the storm left we were issued a tornado warning which really scared me but it was north of here and didn't even come near the marsh. Wow the sky is turning pitch black over lake simcoe now. Hope things turn out okay for people. Good luck for the next couple days as this won't stop for the whole weekend.
