My initial pumpkin leaves are much different than anything I have ever seen before. Any thoughts as to cause and cure? Check out the picture by going to:

Ewwwwwww!
That's not normal, but not sure what it is. Probably the same drill though, soil analysis and tissue analysis, unless someone has seen the exact thing and knows what it is.

I had some yellowing of leaves and Kahuna3 provided the following link that may be helpful to you or others:

http://aggie-horticulture.tamu.edu/cucurbit/indexleaf.html

You can click on either of the six areas and if you see some resembalance to your problem you can drill further down to get some information as to a possible cause.

I'm not sure if any of these apply, based on the shape of the leave my best guess would be the following:

http://aggie-horticulture.tamu.edu/cucurbit/leaf/39.1.html

I hope this helps. Although it may help to confuse you even more.

Here is a link to a 2,4-D fact sheet (possible cause as noted in my last reply). Perhaps you or someone else used this and it accidently drifted into your patch.

Do a foliar. I have had leaves that I thought for sure were showing one thing but the foliar test showed something completely different.

looks like 2-4-d to me. Either that or virus. Thats not a nutrient disorder or a disease, or insect damage.

There has not been any 2,4 D anywhere near my garden. Another thing is that not all of the leaves look like this one. Some appear normal. It isn't every leaf. Weird. I have 3 plants and it has effected all of them.

I've had that before and don't recall that anything bad came from it....as I remember. And I think I would remember if something bad *had* happened from it.

Keep a close watch for drying, burnt areas/holes that might develop on the leaf edges or in the leaf somewhere. If so, a dose of copper MAY be in order....

2-4-D doesn't have to be near to do damage. The right temp and wind from the wrong direction and it vaporizes and drifts with the wind. Can drift at least a half mile or maybe more. Thats why I hate 2-4-D. I don't think commercial sprayers can use it in most States. Tremor can tell more about it probably.

Kyle, what will the copper do?

That could very well be 2,4-D damage. If it is, the plant will never reach it's full potential. I hope it's just a minor nutrient issue instead.

2,4-D is formulated as AMINE which are NOT volatile & ESTERS which are volatile. An ester form of 2,4-D can "gas off" & collect on nearby plants on warm days even if the application method used didn't make direct contact with the Pumpkins.

2,4-D is registered for use in all of the 50 US States for everything from Agriculture, Aquatic, & Ornamental weed controls.
