OK, I'm experienced in G. Gourds and Melons... need to ask a little advice on the GP's....
Those plants that came up from 'direct sowing' are generally all doing very well (sowed April 26) - Most have their 2-3 set of 'mature leaves' now. And are a good dark green. Our first frost is generally on Halloween - and I normally still have tomatoes coming as late as Thanksgiving... Though this has already been a strange year weather-wise!!
When these plants start to flower - when should I allow them to start 'setting' the fruit??

You want a plant that is at least 12' long. Better to place a fruit on a plant that is ready. Than to try placing fruit on a small plant.

I agree with Shannon,but there is rare exeptions to this, the Wentzell's have grown several over 1000 lbs that was only 6ft out on the main.

my 512 last year was pollinated on july 22, you have got plenty of time.
