I have mt plnts(2) off all lifesupport. No hoop house, no heating cables and they both have 5 leaves and look like vines are starting. I am leaving Wednesday for 2 weeks. I have 2 people who are going to care for the plants while I am gone. What are the most important things to tell them as the plants start vinig? What about fungicide treatment or insecticiedes. I am thinking about not having the insecticide treatments until I return. The plants are close together and I only have room for one. Can I wait until I get back to cull one? I hate leaving right now but no choice.

Leave the "sitters" a digital camera. Show them how to email you the pictures ot let them post to your diary in your absence. Thus you can all the shots yourself & they're off the hook.

Personally I'd hit them with Merit before leaving. This no contacts should be needed while you're away.

What fungicide would your plants need this early? Downey & Powdery Mildew shouldn't start this early. Angular Leaf Spot sprays should already be done. Gummy Stem Blight we're early.....

Best advice I have to offer unless there is something cooking in Indiana that I'm not aware of. Tom Beachy?

give them some fert before you leave and then make sure they are watered well when you are gone. they should be taking off pretty soon so show the people how to stake them so you at least get the main vine going in the right direction when it starts running.

My advise for plant sitters has been only to water if the soil is dry. What appears dry to one person could be considered ok to another. Train your care giver and show them how you do it.

Do any fertilizing/fungicides/Insecticides before you leave or when you return.

My wife will go for vacation end of June. I decided to stay home...enough time for that in Oct. / Nov....I don´t even like the heat they have in southern Europe around July. March/April is also fine for me, mid summer never.
